The green-screen ALTERNATIVE — Big Screen Studios
GREEN SCREEN ALTERNATIVE

The green-screenALTERNATIVE

If you have been pricing a green screen studio or green screen rental in Dallas–Fort Worth, there is a better way. The Big Screen Stage is a 32-foot LED volume — real backgrounds, real light, and a finished look captured in-camera instead of keyed in post.

Why teams are leavingGREEN SCREEN

Green screen has been the default for decades, but it moves the hardest work to after the shoot. Backgrounds are added in post, so the on-set lighting rarely matches the final composite. Green spill contaminates skin tones and product. Every clip needs keying and cleanup. Clients approve a rough guide instead of the real thing. An LED volume solves these problems by putting the environment — and its light — on the wall during the shoot.

GREEN SCREEN VS. LED VOLUME
Green ScreenLED Volume
On-set lookTalent performs against a flat green wall; the final look only exists in post. The environment is on the wall in real time — everyone sees the finished shot on set.
LightingBackgrounds are added later, so on-set light rarely matches the composite. The LED wall lights talent and product with the real color of the scene.
Post-productionKeying, spill suppression, edge cleanup, and compositing on every clip.Final-pixel imagery captured in-camera — far less compositing, faster delivery.
Reflective & translucent subjectsGlass, cars, jewelry, and hair are hard to key cleanly.Reflections and refractions read correctly because the environment is really there.

When green screenSTILL MAKES SENSE

We are not anti-green-screen. It is still the right tool for fully CG worlds, extreme camera moves that exceed the wall, and shots that will be composited with heavy VFX no matter what. For the branded video, interviews, product, and corporate work most DFW teams are shooting, an LED volume gets you a better image faster — which is why we built the studio around it.

And when you do need a green screen, the same wall gives you a better one. The Big Screen Stage can display a pure, broadcast-accurate chroma key across its entire surface — lit evenly by the LED panels themselves, with no wrinkles, seams, shadows, or hot spots to light around. You set the exact key color and brightness for your camera, and pull a cleaner, faster matte in post. It is the flexibility of green screen without the painted cyc.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Is an LED volume really a green screen alternative?

Yes. An LED volume replaces the green wall with a large, high-resolution LED display that shows the actual environment during the shoot. You capture the final look in-camera instead of keying and compositing a green background in post.

Do you still offer green screen in Dallas?

Yes — and cleaner than paint. When a shot needs green screen, the Big Screen Stage displays a pure, evenly lit chroma key across its full surface, so you get a uniform key color with no wrinkles, seams, or shadows. For most branded, commercial, and interview work the LED environment produces a better result with less post-production, but the wall can key when you need it to. Ask us during a tour.

When does green screen still make sense?

Green screen can be the right call for fully CG environments, extreme camera moves that exceed the wall, or shots where the background is composited with heavy VFX regardless. For most in-camera branded and corporate work, an LED volume is faster and looks better.

How much does the LED stage cost compared to a green screen rental?

The Big Screen Stage is $3,500/day stage-only or from $7,000/day turnkey with crew. Because there is far less compositing afterward, the all-in cost of a finished deliverable is often lower than a green-screen shoot plus its post-production. See the Big Screen Stage page for full pricing.

Where is the studio located?

Big Screen Studios is in North Dallas at 1002 N Central Expressway, Ste 269, Richardson, TX 75080 — easy access from across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
